Backyard Farm Collective Has Begun Mission to Reduce Food Insecurity

Backyard Farm Collective has begun our mission to reduce food insecurity!

Seeds are being sown for this coming Spring season to grow fresh food for the community.

Our headquarters is in Monrovia, Indiana, where a small piece of land is being transformed to become a model for someone aspiring to grow food for themselves.

Despite Monrovia’s rural setting, access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food can be limited for many residents due to lack of transportation or gaps in local food distribution.

By focusing on sustainable, community-driven solutions, Backyard Farm Collective aims to promote activities such as community gardening, food donations, and education on self-sufficiency.

How Will We Sustain This Mission?

We want to organize an event that highlights the great work that local farmers, businesses, and artists do. We are calling it the Support Local Festival. This festival will strengthen our mission of food security by promoting community engagement that generates resources to combat food insecurity. By hosting the event, the nonprofit can create ongoing opportunities for local farmers, artisans, and small businesses to contribute to a sustainable food ecosystem while promoting local economic growth.

The inaugural event will be held May 10, 2025, at Aquatic Design and Supplies across from IGA.

What is the Support Local Festival?

A celebration of local farmers, artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs. This event is held however much the demand for it persists. We are aiming for 3 times a year! Spring, Summer, and Fall. But we need your support!

Why have a festival?

By attending a community event like the Support Local Festival it sends a message to aspiring farmers, artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs that they are valued and their services desired! This in turn strengthens the community by keeping money in the local economy, creating jobs, and fostering unique, high-quality products and services.

Where at?

For the first time, it will be held at Aquatic Design and Supplies in Monrovia, Indiana. A beautifully landscaped property that showcases the hard work and craftsmanship of a 100% locally owned business.
