As of 2022, Food Insecurity affects 2,380 Children in Morgan County.

The Backyard Farm Collective's mission is to reverse this trend.

    The Mission

Support local farmers and gardeners to meet the food security need for our community.

How will we do it? It starts with the farmer, big or small. We will ensure our community of farmers and gardeners are well equipped to grow food for themselves and their family. And if they come upon an abundance, they have a place to sell, trade, or donate it. Once donated, we want to distribute this produce fairly to the community. Everyone deserves access to fresh and nutritious food. Did you know that the apples at supermarkets can be up to a year old by the time they are put on shelves?

Ways To Get Involved & Contribute

It takes a village to tackle food insecurity long-term. We are looking for passionate people like you to help in this mission. We need volunteers for special projects. Community gardeners and local growers to donate food. And last but not least, financial contributions to keep the mission moving.

The 2025 growing season is here. We can do a lot quickly with your help. Here's where you can help today:

    Current Needs / Projects

Influential connections: We are trying to make big moves quickly! Bureaucracy and hoops to jump through are inevitable. If you are experienced or have connections within the realm of organizing community events, business to business collaboration, or governmental support, we would love for you to help us out! Fill out the form here or contact us at backyardfarmcollective@gmail.com.

Labor: We need our compost collection buckets to be painted / designed to rep the Backyard Farm Collective name! This way,  we can give away these compost buckets for the community to recycle their food scraps in their garden. Also they know where to take the scraps or where to learn what to do with compost in their own backyard.

Financial: Money does not solve all problems, but it can make some easier to solve! Current donations will benefit the construction and management of the Monrovia Community Garden. Also the purchasing of a vehicle for distributing produce to food pantries. Other causes donations will benefit are listed in our Projects page. If you want to give to a specific project, note that with your donation.
